Nicole & Tanner’s wedding at Place of Dreams Karoo (POD) was one of those weddings that nobody will ever forget.

Set amongst the dramatic landscapes of the Karoo, their wedding wasn’t simply a wedding day — it was a full experience. A celebration built around music, friendship, adventure, and doing things completely their own way.

From the very beginning, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be a traditional wedding.

Music has always played a huge role in Nicole and Tanner’s relationship, and it became the heartbeat of their entire celebration. In fact, before many of the other wedding plans were even finalised, the music was already a priority.

As guests gathered at Place of Dreams Karoo, excitement filled the air. The ceremony was filled with laughter, happy tears, and countless moments that perfectly reflected who Nicole and Tanner are as a couple.

The groomsmen handed out beers and ciders before the ceremony, while the bridesmaids made their entrance carrying tequila and Jägermeister shots instead of flowers. It immediately set the tone for a day that would be joyful, relaxed, and wonderfully unpredictable.

The boys walked down the aisle to a psytrance track that surprised more than a few guests, while the girls entered to songs connected to years of friendship and shared memories.

When Tanner made his way down the aisle, the emotion was already impossible to hide.

Then came Nicole.

Arriving in true Nicole fashion aboard a wildly creative festival-inspired vehicle, she brought an energy that perfectly matched the spirit of the day. Walking down the aisle was never really an option. Instead, she danced her way towards Tanner to a song that had been part of their story from the very beginning.

It was one of those moments that could only belong to them.

The ceremony itself was emotional, windy, chaotic and completely authentic.

There were tears, laughter, spontaneous moments, and heartfelt vows delivered against the backdrop of the vast Karoo landscape. Nicole and Tanner weren’t interested in perfection. They wanted something real, and that’s exactly what they created.

One of the most memorable parts of the ceremony was the wind. It seemed determined to make its presence known throughout the day, but somehow it only added to the atmosphere and adventure.

After exchanging vows and officially becoming husband and wife, the couple danced back down the aisle surrounded by family and friends. Bubble machines attempted to create a magical confetti moment, although the Karoo wind had other ideas and quickly sent the bubbles flying across the landscape.

As the celebrations continued, guests moved into a relaxed afternoon of canapés, drinks, and speeches.

Nicole later described this as the moment the reality of the day truly hit her.

Having every person you love gathered in one place, all celebrating alongside you, can be an overwhelming feeling in the best possible way.

The speeches began during canapés, creating a natural pause before the reception started. They were emotional, hilarious, honest, and occasionally chaotic — exactly as a wedding speech should be.

As sunset approached, the celebrations moved into the canyon where the reception took place.

The setting felt almost unreal.

Surrounded by towering rock formations and endless Karoo scenery, guests were welcomed into a space that needed very little decoration. The natural beauty of the canyon spoke for itself.

One of the most emotional moments of the evening came when Nicole and Tanner were introduced for the first time as husband and wife.

They entered to Johnny Clegg’s iconic song “Dela”, made even more meaningful by a live saxophone performance from one of Tanner’s close friends who had previously toured with Johnny Clegg himself.

It was a moment filled with goosebumps, emotion, and pure joy.

The reception continued with incredible food, heartfelt speeches, dancing, and plenty of tequila shots handed out by the newlyweds themselves.

But the real surprise was still to come.

Guests had been instructed before the wedding to bring overnight bags packed with festival outfits.

As reception formalities ended, everyone disappeared to change.

The canyon soon transformed into a full-scale festival experience.

Projection mapping illuminated the canyon walls while DJs filled the night with music beneath the Karoo stars. The atmosphere was electric.

Then, just after 1am, guests were led to a secret afterparty location hidden deeper within the canyon.

As rain finally began falling, the timing could not have been more perfect.

The celebration carried on into the early hours of the morning, with dancing, music, laughter, and unforgettable memories being made until sunrise.

The following day, we met Nicole and Tanner for their couple portraits.

Despite freezing temperatures and relentless wind, they embraced every moment. We spent the session laughing, exploring, dancing, and simply allowing them to be themselves.

The weather may not have been what anyone expected, but it created something incredibly special.

The movement in Nicole’s dress, the dramatic skies above the Karoo, and the raw energy between them resulted in photographs that felt authentic, emotional, and completely true to their relationship.

Looking back, Nicole and Tanner’s wedding at Place of Dreams Karoo was everything a wedding should be.

Unfiltered.

Emotional.

Wild.

Beautiful.

And completely their own.
